Beechwood is fortunate to be conveniently located close to Parliament Hill, lying between Ottawa’s St. Laurent Boulevard and Beechwood Avenue. To ensure easy access, The Beechwood Cemetery Company commissioned the construction of Beechwood Avenue from the St. Patrick Street Bridge to the present day entrance in the late 1800s. Securely established between the neighborhoods of Rockcliffe Park, New Edinburgh, Manor Park and Vanier, Beechwood's 160 acres comprise the largest active cemetery in the City of Ottawa; and by an Act of Parliament in April 2009 Beechwood was designated as the National Cemetery of Canada.
